I'm New

Welcome! It’s common for patients new to chiropractic to have questions. We’ve gathered some of the most common ones below to help set you at ease. If you have additional questions, we’d love to talk with you!

Yes. Chiropractic care is safe and effective. Scientific evidence proving that chiropractic care works is overwhelming. Over the past 20 years, many controlled and independent research studies have shown again and again that chiropractic care is safe and effective for treating low back pain, neck pain, headaches and other conditions relating to the spine. Based on these scientific studies, the consensus is that chiropractic care is the treatment of choice for most spinal problems. The extent to which a person can benefit from care varies depending on their problem and how long it has existed.

The non-surgical, drug-free healing nature of chiropractic provides benefit to the health of millions of other people worldwide each year. Most chiropractic patients experience real relief and improved general wellbeing and continue to make regular visits a part of their healthy lifestyle choice.

From professional athletes to homemakers, engineers to electricians, young people to seniors, chiropractic care has been the answer to optimum health. Many people see a chiropractor for back, neck or other joint problems. Still others find that regular visits to their chiropractor keep them in peak condition.

Regularly a dentist checks our teeth, an optometrist checks our eyes and a doctor checks our blood pressure and heart. Yet, we take the spine – a crucial component of our body – for granted. Call us today because regular checkups of your spine can help you maintain better health.

An adjustment is the main method of treatment used by your chiropractor. It is a specialized, controlled and safe pressure applied to your spine to restore the proper motion and position of your vertebrae. It is a precise procedure that your highly skilled chiropractor has learned and perfected over years of training at a Chiropractic College and in clinical practice.

Every health procedure, from taking aspirin to giving blood, involves a level of risk. Chiropractic adjustments are among the safest of all health care interventions because they are non-surgical, drug-free and present an extremely low risk. And they work!

The main causes of joint dysfunction are mechanical, chemical, and emotional. Mechanical causes are referred to as micro- or macrotrauma. Microtrauma can also be called a repetitive stress injury. Macrotrauma refers to pain due to trauma to the body, such as a fall, a break, car crash, or even sitting with poor posture at a desk and typing all day. Both forms of mechanical causes of joint dysfunction can benefit immensely from chiropractic care. Another cause of joint dysfunction is due to the chemical effects on the joint function and the body. Smoking, heavy drinking, and poor diet are stressors that can create chemical imbalances in the body. Emotional stress also leads to joint dysfunction due to the overall stress and tension created within the body.

Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference. By restoring spinal function with Chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.

The customized care you receive from your chiropractor may help to improve your posture, muscle balance and mobility. It can also restore the integrity of your nervous system and get rid of pain quickly, so you can get back to optimum health expression.

As a licensed practitioner, it is the duty of your chiropractor to do the following:

  • A thorough review of your specific problem is conducted, including relevant past history and overall health.
  • You will be asked to perform physical tests and movements to help identify the problem.
  • In certain situations, an X-ray may be used to confirm the history and examination findings and to investigate for the presence of any underlying bone conditions or pathological developments.
  • The nervous system function will be evaluated with space technology, the subluxation station, and a non-invasive scan.
  • A diagnosis is made, with treatment options for its resolution outlined. If it is, a plan of treatment is communicated. If it is not a chiropractic problem, an appropriate referral is arranged.
  • A prognosis is made, taking into account your general health habits, occupation, stress and activity levels.

Your response to treatment is monitored by your chiropractor, who looks for an improvement to your specific condition, as well as for changes in your overall health.

Two of the basic components of chiropractic care are wellness and prevention. Utilization of exercises, along with nutrition and lifestyle modifications may also be suggested to improve your overall well-being and promote active, patient-centered care.

That depends on your condition. The length of time you have had the problem, your age and the degree of your disability all affect the length of your treatment.

Your Doctor of Chiropractic should be able to give you an estimate of the extent of relief you should receive from the recommended treatment and how long you can expect it to last.

One of the main reasons people choose chiropractic is that they often get quick results. Individual cases vary, and chronic conditions obviously need more treatment. However, Workers’ Compensation Board studies show that people with low back pain return to work much faster with chiropractic care.

Today’s graduating Doctors of Chiropractic have studied and trained in a post-secondary college or university for at least seven years. Just like medical or dental students, they must first complete undergraduate study before applying for admission to a chiropractic college.

Becoming a chiropractor is a demanding and highly rewarding path that includes a minimum of 4,500 hours of intense academic study including classroom learning, clinical science and internship training. During their training, he/she will have studied the following three areas:

  • Basic sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pathology (the study of diseases), biochemistry, clinical sciences, X-ray interpretation and differential diagnosis.
  • Training in the philosophy and practice of chiropractic.
  • Clinical internship with emphasis on hands-on practice.

Your chiropractor is a primary contact provider just like your family physician, optometrist or dentist. You do not need a referral from your medical doctor to see a chiropractor.

Real Stories

I have been coming to Dr. Youngblood for over 20 years. I attribute my flexibility and good general health to those regular adjustments. When I feel off key, I add an extra trip, and literally leave feeling better! P.S. It also helps my golf swing.

Anne

I have been coming to Dr. Youngblood for about 5 years. During this time, he has been able to always get me adjusted and I always feel better, much better, than when I came in. I am one of those people who put off too long before making an appointment hoping I will feel better on my own. Think I would learn that is not happening. Just many thanks to all at this office for being very kind and courteous.

Georgena

I work at UPS loading up to 1,000 packages a day, each weighing up to 150 pounds. Off the conveyor belt and into the delivery trucks … at 3am. So not just heavy, back-breaking work, but a rough sleep schedule too! Without regular chiropractic adjustments, every aspect of my health would be unbearably worse. Thank you for keeping my body from falling apart.

Jimmy

I’ve seen the Doc for a little over a year. I came in with a severe concussion, severe degenerative disk disease and no hope for a future. I needed help remembering to eat, and could not due simple chores. Doc treated me with his magic touch, and laser treatments. I can now read, write walk, ride a bike, garden- I built a raised bed using wooden blocks and filled it alone. I play with my grandkids and am enjoying life. Please
continue with maintenance care, most of my recovery has happened during that time. You may feel ok now but will slowly go back to pre-treatment if not followed through. I am a totally new person.

Carol

I have been coming to Dr. Youngblood for quite some time and he has helped me stay on my feet longer at work and not be tired all day!

Lane

I came in for bad neck pain and occasional lower back pain. My neck pain went away after a couple of visits. My lower back pain improved after six months. Dr. Youngblood also recommended supplements and after about a month my blood pressure dropped to optimal levels.

Nicholas

Dr. Youngblood is an amazing chiropractor! He has been able to figure out all the places that are stuck or out of position and get them back into the right position. He is also great at getting extremities adjusted. For many years my ribs in the upper back were out and I was in severe pain and my activities were limited. Now with regular adjustments that address my rib
issues, I am happy and healthy!

Leila

I have worked with Dr. Y for about ten years. His adjustments are extremely helpful, keeping my neck and back pain at bay-manageable. This keeps me coming back. I do appreciate his expertise, knowledge and help. Thank you.

Anita

“Dr Youngblood has changed my life and the life of my whole family! I began receiving treatments in May of 2015 for a hip issue I began having while pregnant with my first son in 2003. I had lived with this pain for so long I didn’t even realize how bad it hurt until it didn’t. After all those years of living in pain it was normal for me. I feel amazing now I can do all my karate classes and I do Krav Maga (Israeli self defense) my hips work perfectly now with my regular maintenance appointments with Dr Youngblood.

One day after starting my treatments I mentioned to the Doc that my children were having issues. My son had headaches enough to start fights with his sisters for being too loud he would hide in his room and missed a bit of school. And my daughters both had asthma. Doc encouraged me to bring them in and set them up with testing. So all three kids and my husband came for testing with Doc.

My son Justice only took about 1 month to stop complaining about the headaches. And my husband was not having headaches any more either and his breathing had improved greatly in a short amount of time.

The REAL life changer is my daughters’ story… My youngest daughter was in kindergarten grade and my older daughter in 2nd grade. They both had asthma and allergies so badly that they were about to have to go to the allergy clinic and start getting shots weekly. They were already on five different medications each, and the doctor was at a loss. Nothing was controlling their asthma or their coughs they were constantly sick and each cough would last months. I didn’t take them out very often out of fear that they would catch a cold or something. They really both sounded like 70 year old smokers.

Every fall and every spring came a new set of coughs, humidifiers, hospital trips, sleepless nights, and doctor’s appointments. When the girls started their treatments with Doc they both had a cough already that they had had for a couple of months because it was already almost the end of spring. Within a month they were breathing easier they were sleeping better and improving greatly.

At this point I started to wean them off their meds. We stopped one medication at a time with doctor and Doc’s supervision; it took about before they were off all the medication. I was very panicked in the
beginning and Doc would drop everything to help the girls. If I even suspected they were having a hard time breathing for any reason he would see them immediately. They started school for 1st and 3rd grade with no cough which was a first for both the girls.

Now it is January 2019 and they have regular colds and when they get sick its normal lasting about 3-7 days no one has to go to the hospital and no one needs medication. Dr. Youngblood has changed their lives forever.”

The C. Family

“I’ve always had back pain that varied from very mild to extreme. Sitting or standing for more than a couple minutes would be very uncomfortable. I finally decided to do something about it.

I searched on Google for what chiropractor was near me. Family Chiropractic at Salmon Creek was one of the closest and best reviewed. I went in for the consultation, the X-rays, and the class. From this, I
decided to go forward with treatment. It was the best decision I have made in a long time.

Within the first week, I noticed a difference and within the first month I felt about 80% better. I followed the plan that Dr. Youngblood prescribed for me. I also modified my nutrition and habits at home. I was so happy with my results that I insisted that my wife go in for her hormonal problems. We are very happy with her results as well. I have finished my 3-month plan and I decided to continue coming in twice a month for the trigger point therapy and the-adjustment.

I cannot recommend Dr. Youngblood’s practice enough. You would be surprised how many things can be alleviated and/or fixed with getting chiropractic care.”

Isaiah

I am so thankful for the excellent care and education I am receiving from Dr. Youngblood as to keeping my immune system and spinal alignment at its best condition. I have such peace of mind knowing he is on my health maintenance and protection team. I highly recommend his regular schedule of adjustments and yearly comprehensive x-ray and wellness exams. Dr. Youngblood and his team really care for you as a person and listen carefully to and responds to your needs. Thanks so much Dr. Youngblood for improving my overall health.

David

There have been times that without Dr. Youngblood’s help I would not be able to do the things I do. The new chairs are great! Helps to relax and get the adjustment firmed up. Thank you, Dr. Youngblood and team!

Ina

For as long as I can remember, I have had a lot of back pain, due to scoliosis. Over the last 15 years that I’ve been visiting Dr. Youngblood at my monthly appointments, I’ve experienced improved comfort and endurance, even finishing a 26.2 mile marathon! I always look forward to my regular jumpstarts and appreciate Dr. Youngblood’s expertise and especially his teaching attitude and sense of humor.

Rhonda

I have been a patient of Dr. Youngblood for nearly 20 years! And have enjoyed the friendly attitude of the staff. They are always eager to help in many ways. Dr. Youngblood has treated many different problems, and in my opinion, is encouraging, thorough and partially responsible for my mobility. The staff and he are like a friendly family gathering. Thank you for how you support your patients.

Karen

I have had problems with my hips and lower back pain since the birth of my second son in 2008. In the past, I would only come in when I was in severe pain. I finally listened to Dr. Youngblood’s recommendation to get
adjustments before you are in severe pain. I now see Dr. Youngblood one to two times a month and I’m never to the point of severe pain. I’m seeing
the benefits of a monthly adjustment instead of every three months or so.

Khrisa

I have been coming to Dr. Youngblood for about a year. During this time, I have had significant decrease in my neck, back and hip pain. I have also had a decrease in the amount and severity of headaches. After years of pain, it is nice to finally be nearly pain free.

Trevor

“Diagnosed with mild ADD and mild Tourett’s Syndrome 4 years ago. My next option was medication. Doc Youngblood started giving me regular adjustments on my upper cervical vertebrae and all my symptoms have improved – including my focus at school. Thanks Doc!”

Isaac

“We found out that our 10-year-old had 8 degree scoliosis in June. Six months later she was measuring 14 degrees and considered progressive.
The specialist at Randall Children’s Hospital told us to “watch and wait.”

With a case of severe scoliosis in the family, we were not happy with this answer and sought out back specialist – a chiropractor – and a pediatric chiropractor that believed he could help: Dr. Youngblood.

We are happy to announce, that after 4 weeks of 2 treatments per week with Dr. Youngblood that our daughter’s curve has decreased from 14 degrees to 5 degrees! We are thrilled to be on the path of normalcy, no pain, and no surgery! Thank you Dr. Youngblood.”

Robert & Ann

“I am 11 years old and have been doing competitive gymnastics since I was 5 years old. I started seeing Dr. Youngblood 5 years ago due to the beating my body takes from gymnastics during training and competition.

Whenever I get injured or my back feels out I have my parents make me an appointment with Dr. Youngblood. Dr. Youngblood is always able and willing to fix me and help me be able to compete in gymnastics without pain.

I would recommend Dr. Youngblood to anyone, especially to other kids in sports or if they have an injury. Thanks Dr. Youngblood!”

Kenzie

“I originally sought help for my 3-month old son. He had a traumatic birth, and I knew something wasn’t right. He wasn’t sleeping well, would scream during car rides, diaper/clothes changes, and was extra fussy.

Within the first few visits, I saw dramatic changes with him. He was no logger fussy, stopped screaming during changes and car rides. I even noticed he stopped spitting up.

With these results, I decided to seek help for myself. My back, neck and hip pain have dramatically decreased after a few visits. The best result was lessening my headaches. I have suffered from intense headaches for years.

Dr.Youngblood has gone above and beyond for me and my family. I only wish I had discovered him sooner. And a huge thank you to the amazing staff who have been so kind and caring.”

Danielle

“I came to Dr Youngblood unable to walk without the support of crutches due to extreme sciatic nerve pain that had been ongoing for two months. I had tried physical therapy for months and a cortisone shot, but nothing seemed to hep the issue. It was absolutely devastating as I love to be active and participate in activities such as hiking and fishing.

Doc analyzed my condition and believed that he could help. At this point in time, I was ready to try anything possible to get back to walking normally. He explained that the underlying cause was subluxation. In the following weeks, Doc and Ross worked on me and gave me home exercises to perform.

Fast forward to today, I am able to run on the elliptical (up to 3 miles so far !!) and lift weights again. Though I still feel subtle pains in my foot my condition has improved tenfold. I have no doubt that Doc and the staff will continue to provide genuine care for me. I highly recommend Dr. Youngblood to anyone who needs help.”

Shawn

I, Russell S. Hunt of Vancouver, Washington want to inform you of my high regards of Dr. Harley Youngblood. As of August 2021, I came down with a sciatica nerve problem, went to the hospital not knowing of what this pain was. The hospital diagnosed it as of having sciatica in my left leg. The pain was excruciating, and I was out of work for two months. The hospital gave me Oxycodone for the pain. However, it only numbed it and did not take care of the situation for the pain. I was recommended Dr. Youngblood for chiropractic treatment by a friend of mine. After four months of treatment, pain subsided substantially. I could move without pain relievers.

As of December 2021, I was no longer taking any medication to offset the pain and have been pain free. I gave all the credit to the Dr. and wish everybody a speedy recovery as I have had. He has been a great help to my recovery, and I would not have been to continue working without his help and expertise. Jackie and Dr. Harley Youngblood are wonderful people and are honestly concerned about their patients. I highly recommend them to anyone needing a chiropractor. I will continue to recommend them to all my friends and colleagues for chiropractic treatment. Thank you very much Dr. Youngblood. Sincerely,

Russell S. Hunt
